Install the downloaded Macintosh Full Driver and Software package - USB

1. Your machine must be turned on and directly connected to your computer with a USB cable.

2. Download the Full Driver and Software Package from http://www.brother-usa.com.

3. Browse to the location of the downloaded software and then double-click on the file "xxxxxxxx.dmg".

Note The downloaded file is typically saved in the Downloads folder. The location may vary based on your browser's settings, but is sometimes located in the Dock.

If you don't find the Downloads folder in the Dock, click Finder in the Dock. Click Go on the Finder bar at the top of the screen and then click (Home) → Downloads.

4. If the Brother folder doesn't automatically open, double-click the Brother icon on the desktop.

5. Double-click the Start Here OSX icon.

Note If you have a problem finding the Start Here OSX icon, click Finder in the Dock and then click Applications → Utilities. Open the Disk Utility and double-click "xxxxxxxx.dmg". A new window will be opened and you will find the Start Here OSX icon.

6. If you receive a security warning about opening the application, click Open.

7. Choose Local Connection (USB), and then click Next.

8. Click Continue.

9. If you receive the Environmental Advice for Imaging Equipment screen, click Continue.

10. On the License Agreement screen, click Continue.

11. If you agree to the terms, click Agree.

12. Click Install.

Note If you want to change the location of the installation, you may click Change Install Location and then specify a different directory.

13. If prompted, enter your Macintosh password and then click Install Software. This is the password that you use to log into your Macintosh computer.

14. If you receive a security warning about opening the application, click Open.

15. Choose your machine from the list, and then click Next.

Note If you receive a message stating: Device not found, do the following:

     - Make sure that your machine is turned on.

     - Check that the USB cable is connected directly to the USB port on the Brother machine and to an available USB port on the Macintosh.  Remove any hubs or extensions if necessary.

     - Try a different USB cable and other available ports on the Macintosh. 

     - To search for the machine again, click the gear icon under the list of available printers, and then click Refresh.

16. Click Add Printer.

17. Choose your machine from the list and then click Add.

Note Be sure that the CUPS driver has been selected for the "Use" or "Print Using" dropdown so that you have full printing functionality. Do not select an AirPrint driver if listed.

18. Click Next.

19. When the Brother support screen appears, you may choose any of the available optional installations. Once complete, click Next.

20. Once the driver installation is finished, click Close.

21. On the installation was successful screen, click Close.

Add my Brother machine (the printer driver) using Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.11.

To locate Print & Fax, Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners and add your Brother machine as a printer, follow the instructions below:

NOTE: The screens may differ depending on the operating system being used and your Brother machine.

1. Turn your Brother machine's power off and unplug the machine from the power outlet. If an interface cable is connected, unplug it too.

2. Choose your connection type.

For USB Users:

Plug the Brother machine to the power outlet and turn the machine power on.

Connect the Brother machine to the PC by a USB cable.

Do not connect the product to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.

For Wired Network Users:

Connect the network cable to the Brother machine and the hub.

Plug the Brother machine to the power outlet and turn the machine power on.

For Wireless Network Users:

Plug the Brother machine to the power outlet and turn the machine power on.

 

Then you will need to setup your machine on the network. For more information on how to setup the machine on the network, please refer to the Quick Setup Guide or Network User's Guide for your machine. The latest Quick Setup Guide or Network User's Guide is available in the Manuals section.

3. Click on the Apple Menu and choose System Preferences. 

4. Click on the Print & Fax, Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners icon.

5. Click on the + button.

6. Click on Default. Choose your Brother machine from Printer Name list.

Confirm that the correct machine is listed for Print Using or Use. And click on the Add button.

For the CUPS Driver:

Make sure that [model name] + CUPS is listed for Print Using or Use. (Where [model name] is the printer model name.)

For PostScript Driver (not available for all models):

Make sure that [model name] BR-Script or [model name] PS is listed for Print Using or Use. (Where [model name] is the printer model name.)

For AirPrint compatible models:

If the AirPrint driver is selected, you will not have the full functionality of the printer driver. Instead, we recommend that you choose the CUPS Driver, as detailed above, for the most complete functionality.

7. The machine is added to Print & Fax, Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners. Close System Preferences.
